With autumn just around the corner, a number of literary events are gearing up for the season. We’re excited to share some great BC book events happening this week. 

Tonight, catch Fine, the monthly evening of storytelling and otherwise in Vancouver. Storytellers this month feature Grant Lawrence, whose tales have already produced three bestselling books, including the most recent, Dirty WindshieldsSheryda Warrener will also be performing, a poet with numerous accolades, her second collection, Floating is Everything was published in 2015.

Award-winning author and historian Kate Bird will be in Richmond on Wednesday, August 30, with a talk and presentation on her bestselling book Vancouver in the Seventies: Photos from a Decade That Changed the City (Greystone Books).

For those with an interest in politics, you won’t want to miss the launch of Engagement Organizing: the Old Art and New Science of Winning Campaigns (UBC Press) in Duncan on Thursday August 31. Author Matt Price will be joined by MP Alistair McGregor, MLA Sonia Furstenau, and Duncan councilor Michelle Staples to share untold stories from the campaign trail.

The Paper Hound is well-known for intimate evenings of literature and the poetry event on Thursday, August 31 will be spot-on. Anahita Jamali Rad, whose debut poetry collection for love and autonomy (Talonbooks) was published in 2016, will be reading with Deanna Fong. The event will be hosted by Danielle LaFrance, author of Friendly + Fire (Talonbooks 2016).
