This week features launches for novels, story collections, non-fiction, poetry, and more. Don’t miss enticing readings around Vancouver, up the Sea to Sky corridor, and on the Island.  

Kara Stanley and Angie Abdou are having a couple of joint book launches this week for Ghost Warning (Caitlin Press) and In Case I Go (Arsenal Pulp Press). Today, Monday, October 2, they will be in Vancouver at the Central Branch public library. The next day, on Tuesday, October 3, they’ll be at Bolen Books in Victoria.

Iona Whishaw‘s third Lane Winslow mystery is now available. She will be launching An Old Cold Grave in Vancouver on Tuesday, October 3.

Environmental professional Robert William Falls will be launching his new book Carbon Play: The Candid Observations of a Carbon Pioneer (Rocky Mountain Books), which follows his unique and extraordinary journey in the worlds of academia, politics and corporate “big energy.” On Tuesday, October 3, Robert Falls will be in Lions Bay on the Sea to Sky Corridor. Then on Friday, October 6, he’ll be in West Vancouver.

On Wednesday, October 4, catch Kara Stanley and Angie Abdou on Salt Spring Island. They will be joined by Zoey Leigh Peterson for a triple launch.

On Wednesday, October 4, Victoria authors Michael L. Hadley and Anita Hadley launch maritime anthologySpindrift: A Canadian Book of the Sea in Vancouver. Spindrift features some of Canada’s most significant literary voices musing the world’s oceans.

Also on Wednesday, October 4, Bill Gaston will be reading at Munro’s Books in Victoria from his short story collection A Mariner’s Guide to Self Sabotage. Bill Gaston will be joined by Theresa Kishkan reading from Euclid’s Orchard.

Following the City on Edge exhibit launch last week at the Museum of Vancouver, Kate Bird will be holding a panel discussion on Thursday, October 5 with Charles Demers, Wayde Compton, and Aaron Chapman to explore the local landscape of protests, riots, and demonstrations.

On Thursday, October 5, Victoria’s Poet Laureate Yvonne Blomer will be launching Refugium: Poems for the Pacific, an anthology of poems that explore poets’ deep concern for the Pacific Ocean and the creatures within.
