Events this Week | December 4-10, 2017

News Bites • December 4, 2017 • RLBC

Our event calendar seems to have quieted down after the busyness of the fall. But there are still a few events this week around the province if you have a hankering (and we know you do!).

Sheldon Goldfarb has been the archivist of UBC’s Alma Mater Society for more than twenty years. Join him on Monday, December 4, for the launch of The Hundred Year Trek: A History of Student Life at UBC, a vibrant look back through a century of student life, achievement, and activism at UBC.

Sage Birchwater will sign copies of his BC bestseller, Chilcotin Chronicles, on Tuesday, December 5 at Bookland in Vernon and present a slide show at the Vernon public library on Wednesday, December 6.

Tradewind Books will be celebrating the official launch of Nicola I. Campbell’s A Day With Yayah on Thursday, December 7. If you were lucky enough to hear Nicola reading (from printers proofs!) at our event during Word Vancouver in September, you know this will be a great event. Inspired by her own family, A Day With Yayah explores our connection with the natural world as a Grandmother passes down her knowledge of herbs and plant life to her grandchildren.

If local history and activism are more your style, don’t miss Archiving Activism on Thursday, December 7 at the Museum of Vancouver. Exhibit co-curator and author Kate Bird will moderate a discussion featuring some of Vancouver’s cutting-edge archivists: Ron Dutton of the BC Gay and Lesbian Archives; Bailey Garden from the BC Labour Heritage Centre; and Vincent Tao of the Pollyanna Library & 221A artist run centre.

On the afternoon of Friday, December 8, Jack Knox will be hanging out at Munro’s Books in Victoria. Stop by for a chat, get a signed book, and cross some names off your holiday shopping list.
