Literature to foster child resilience by Dr. Jillian Roberts

September 15 | 12:30 PM - 1:45 PM

Using children’s literature to foster child resilience with Jillian Roberts, PhD, Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies.

Our world is VUCA—variable, uncertain, chaotic and ambiguous. Psychologists cannot only help young people navigate complicated personal and interpersonal issues, but they can also help them fully explore their own innate potential. In doing so, they help foster resilience in a generation of young people.

To this end, Dr. Jillian Roberts has partnered with Orca Book Publishers to write the JustEnough.ca series which uses children’s literature as a way to help parents and children navigate our VUCA world and thereby foster child resilience.

Dr. Jillian Roberts is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Victoria. She has been an active researcher in the areas of health psychology and special education. She teaches how to best meet the needs of children with special needs in inclusive classroom settings. Dr. Roberts is also a Registered Psychologist (#1398) in the community who specializes in child, adolescent and school psychology.

This lecture is part of the University of Victoria’s Deans’ Lecture Series. To register, please call UVic’s Continuing Studies Department at 250-472-4747.
