Wade Davis wins 2017 George Ryga Award for Social Awareness

Wade Davis: PhotographsPhotographer and anthropologist Wade Davis was named the 2017 recipient for the George Ryga Award for Social Awareness in Literature for Wade Davis: Photographs (Douglas & McIntyre).

The George Ryga Award recognizes a BC writer who has achieved an outstanding degree of social awareness in a book published in the previous year. The prize, named for Canadian playwright and novelist George Ryga, will be presented at the Vancouver Public Library on June 29, 2017.

Wade Davis: Photographs is a stunning collection of 150 of Davis’ favourite photographs, taken throughout his 40-year career as an anthropologist. The photos and accompanying essays provide a diverse and impressive catalogue of cultures and practices from around the world. Intimate portraits of family and community life, each photograph captures a rich story about the human condition, and invites the viewer to experience scenes of family, magic, love, and tradition.
