SUMMARY:Book Launch: We Go Where They Go: The Story of Anti-Racist Action
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, March 9 at 6pm PST\, join Massy Arts Society\, Massy Books and University of Regina Press for the unapologetically voice-giving launch of We Go Where They Go: The Story of Anti-Racist Action. Recounting the thrilling story of a massive forgotten youth movement that set the stage for today’s anti-fascist organizing in North America\, it features extensive interviews with dozens of dedicated activists in hundreds of chapters who joined the Anti-Racist Action fight. \nIn a conversation with authors Gord Hill and Shannon Clay—this evening invites us to ask the revolutionary questions of risk-taking and what we owe anti-fascist movements of the past. \nThis project has been made possible by the Government of Canada. Ce projet a été rendu possible grâce au gouvernement du Canada. \nRegistration is free\, open to all\, and required for entrance.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Susan Braley\, Karen Enns\, & Jane Munro
DESCRIPTION:Join Munro’s for an evening of inspiring readings celebrating the newest collections from three wonderful local Victoria poets! \nTilling the Darkness is Susan Braley’s debut poetry collection follows a young woman born into a family of eleven as she navigates the inequities of gender roles on the farm and in the church. Eventually leading us to how this woman\, after leaving the farm\, comes to appreciate the complex\, bountiful legacy of her early life. \nKaren Enn’s Dislocations takes the reader on a lyrical journey\, wrapped in the vicissitudes of seasons and weather—while observing human and other-than-human lives. Enns invites us to peer and is concerned always with the locations and dislocations perspective implies and creates. \nFalse Creek\, Jane Munro’s collection\, balances her signature themes—dream life\, the visual arts\, the mysteries of the natural world—with an urgent\, more directly political voice. While not shirking painful realities\, the poems support the human capacity to climb ladders\, arrive at fresh points of view\, listen to one another\, and greet despair with attention\, wit\, and hope. \nWHEN: Wednesday\, March 8th\, at 7:00PM. Doors open at 6:30PM. \nWHERE: In-store at Munro’s Books! 1108 Government St. \nWHAT: Susan Braley\, Karen Enns and Jane Munro will be reading and talking about their newest poetry collections! \nHOW: This event is free to attend.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, March 6th at 6pm\, join Massy Arts Society\, Massy Books and Harper Collins for the launch of this multigenerational tale: Valley of the Birdtail by Andrew Stobo Sniderman and Douglas Sanderson (Amo Binashii). \nSpanning generations\, Valley of the Birdtail brings together two families\, one white and one Indigenous\, and weaves their lives into the larger story of Canada. In conversation with Emilie Lahaie\, partner in the Aboriginal Law Group at Cassels\, this evening delves into these narratives of these two communities—separate and unequal—and how they create a layered story about community\, history and reconciliation. \nThis project has been made possible by the Government of Canada.
