DESCRIPTION:Do you have a play idea and need to interview someone for your research? Whether it’s for learning personal or familial histories\, understanding historical/cultural/societal contexts\, or digging deeper into a niche expertise the method and means of interview can affect what information is collected. Join a workshop with local published playwright and dramaturg\, Kamila Sediego\, for tips on how to ethically gather information\, how to conduct interviews\, and how to turn that research gold into storytelling tools and inspiration. \nKamila Sediego (she/her/siya) is a daughter of immigrants\, sister\, auntie\, partner\, playwright\, and dramaturg grateful to live on the unceded and stolen territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish\, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. Her ancestral roots stretch across the Pacific\, and are embedded in the lands of Iloilo\, Cebu\, and Manila\, Philippines. \nKamila’s play Homecoming was published by Playwrights Canada Press in 2025 and its world premiere (Urban Ink) was at the Cultch and at the Evergreen Arts Centre in 2024. Most recently\, Kamila participated in the PuSh Festival’s In Dialogue program\, and she was a playwright at Caravan Farm Theatre’s National Playwright Retreat. She was a Playwrights Theatre Centre Associate (2021-2024)\, and is a current Resident Dramaturg and co-lead of Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre’s Creation Lab. They will each read from their body of work\, show some of Sandra’s art in the book and after a conversation between the two of us\, we’ll invite you to join in. \nSandra Yuen is an Asian female artist\, writer and musician with a disability. This neurodivergent prose poetry collection was written during a time of transition and personal growth. These works transcend the everyday into a microcosm of humour\, play\, insight and philosophical introspection with themes of aging\, city life\, character and love. Twenty-six colour plates of Sandra Yuen’s artworks accompany the poems. This is her first full-length poetry book.

DESCRIPTION:Discover why\, in modern history\, women’s fashion deliberately sacrificed functionality for silhouette\, while traditionally men’s clothing accommodated up to 17 pockets in a single suit. The patriarchy and capitalism have shaped our wardrobes for long enough! \nBeyond its brief yet thorough explanation of why feminine clothing lacks pockets\, The Magic of Pockets\, empowers you to take action. Canadian author Jess Driscoll transforms frustration into practical rebellion\, teaching you to add the pockets you deserve to the clothes you already own. \nJess will lead the group through the process of hand sewing a basic patch pocket to an item that you own\, be it a dress\, a tote bag\, a skirt or pair of pants\, or another item of your choosing. Participants are required to bring in an item to sew your pocket to\, the same type of fabric for your pocket (at least a 10″ x 10″ piece of material)\, scissors\, needles\, a ruler\, pins and thread. There will be a limited supply of donated materials and tools available\, but please bring anything extra that you have that you’d like to share with the group. \nAll levels of sewers are welcome and encouraged to build community by sharing skills and promoting sustainability. This is a fun low-key social environment to enjoy an evening of slowing down\, hand sewing and creative brainstorming. \nIn partnership with Nine Ten Publications. \nLight refreshments will be available.

Previously he was a senior curator at The Power Plant (1994 – 2003) and the Art Gallery of Ontario (1985 – 1994). He has written fifteen books\, including Genres High and Low: Writings on Art (2026)\, Is Toronto Burning?: Three Years in the Making (and Unmaking) of the Toronto Art Scene (2016)\, and Glamour is Theft: A User’s Guide to General Idea (2012). As well as scores of articles\, reviews\, and book essays\, he has written dozens of catalogues on international and Canadian artists. In 2009\, he was the inaugural recipient of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2011 he received the Hnatyshyn Award for Curatorial Excellence. DESCRIPTION:Originally from Vancouver Island\, meet Vancouver author Ryan Cho who will be in the store signing copies and chatting about his book Brotherhood is a Constant Possibility.\nThis is a free event. \nAbout the book:\nIn this timely and insightful memoir\, Ryan Cho unpacks ideas about masculinity and Asian men in a world of stereotypes and social expectations. Drawing from his own experiences and interviews with other Asian men and nonbinary people\, Cho explores how culture\, sexuality and race combine to influence identity. Along the way\, he meets people redefining what masculinity means to them and discusses what we can do to steward a version of masculinity that is inclusive\, progressive and authentic. \nAbout the author:\nRyan Cho (he/him) is a second-generation Chinese-Canadian teacher and writer based in Vancouver\, BC. He has a background in gender\, anti-racism and environmental justice work\, and in 2018\, was recognized for his contribution to social justice education with the B.C. Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education.
