DESCRIPTION:Join Munro’s for an evening of inspiring readings celebrating the newest collections from three wonderful local Victoria poets! \nTilling the Darkness is Susan Braley’s debut poetry collection follows a young woman born into a family of eleven as she navigates the inequities of gender roles on the farm and in the church. Eventually leading us to how this woman\, after leaving the farm\, comes to appreciate the complex\, bountiful legacy of her early life. \nKaren Enn’s Dislocations takes the reader on a lyrical journey\, wrapped in the vicissitudes of seasons and weather—while observing human and other-than-human lives. Enns invites us to peer and is concerned always with the locations and dislocations perspective implies and creates. \nFalse Creek\, Jane Munro’s collection\, balances her signature themes—dream life\, the visual arts\, the mysteries of the natural world—with an urgent\, more directly political voice. While not shirking painful realities\, the poems support the human capacity to climb ladders\, arrive at fresh points of view\, listen to one another\, and greet despair with attention\, wit\, and hope. \nWHEN: Wednesday\, March 8th\, at 7:00PM. DESCRIPTION:Join us Sunday\, March 26\, 2 pm\, Mission Point House\, 4603 Sunshine Coast Hwy\, Davis Bay\, for two extraordinary guests.\nCheryl Stephens\, a leader in plain language communications\, presents Write for the Reader Brain. \nCheryl Stephens found her calling as an educator\, trainer\, and consultant in communications. For over thirty years she has been writing\, speaking\, and teaching about plain language\, helping clients to become more successful communicators using plain language principles. \nCheryl has mined the varied fields of neuroscience to apply research results to explain human processes for reading\, thinking\, and decision-making. Since 2019\, she has been speaking internationally about writing for the reader brain.\nCheryl has three books in process with publication expected this year. Her earlier works include Plain Language Legal Writing and Plain Language In Plain English. Learn more about her at cherylstephens.com \nAfter a refreshment and social break\, starting at 3:30 pm: \nCatherine McNeil (Cat Mac) will read from her new poetry book emily & elspeth (Caitlin Press). The delightful cover of the book was created by local artist RoseAnn Janzen.\nShe is the author of under the influence (Bedazzled Ink) 2016 which won Milieu’s National Emerging Writers Competition. She has been widely published in literary magazines\, including Event\, Queer Chroma\, Sinister Wisdom\, and the Capilano Review\, and in anthologies throughout Canada\, the United States & England for the past thirty years. She lives in Halfmoon Bay\, BC\, with her dog\, Gaia and her cat\, Lavender. She is also a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
